Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of depression on the relationship between parental neglect and suicidal ideation. Based on the existing literature review, this study aimed to examine the effect of parental neglect on suicidal ideation by perceived depression in adolescents.

Methods: This study used the ¡®2020 Child and Youth Human Rights Survey¡¯ conducted by the ¡®National Youth Policy Institute¡¯ for the whole country as basic data. The independent variable was parental neglect, the dependent variable was suicidal thoughts, and the parameter was depression. For data analysis, SPSS ver 27.0 program was used.

Results: As a result of comparing suicidal thoughts according to the characteristics of the study subjects, ¡®female students¡¯ scored higher than ¡®male students¡¯, and ¡®high school students¡¯ scored higher than ¡®middle school students¡¯ in terms of school level. In terms of academic performance and economic level, ¡®low¡¯ was the highest. As a result of examining the effect on suicidal ideation by inputting parental neglect as an independent variable and depression as a parameter, parental neglect (¥â=0.118, P=0.000) and depression (¥â=0.496, P=0.000) were statistically significant, and depression was statistically significant. Partial mediation was performed (P=0.000).

Conclusion: Parents can reduce adolescent suicidal ideation by preparing realistic measures to pay attention to their children and not parental neglect them.
